Join the Lillian’s Team as a Barista

Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday | 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
Part-Time | Opportunity for Additional Hours & Cross-Training

Lillian’s Petite Market & Eatery is looking for a warm, energetic, hospitality-minded Barista to join our daytime team.

This role is at the heart of our first-floor café. In the morning, our Barista is responsible for our coffee program and counter-service breakfast. As we transition into lunch, lunch service moves upstairs to our second-floor dining room and is handled by our servers—but the coffee shop downstairs stays open.

Throughout lunch, you’ll continue making coffee and specialty beverages for our upstairs dining guests while also taking care of neighbors and guests who walk in throughout the day for coffee, pastries, or something from the market.

It’s a role for someone who enjoys both the craft of making a great cup of coffee and the connection that comes from being the welcoming face of a neighborhood café.

About Lillian’s

Lillian’s Petite Market & Eatery is a neighborhood café, market, restaurant, and gathering place built around community, creativity, curiosity, and connection.

We care deeply about where our ingredients come from and the people who produce them. That philosophy extends to our coffee program.

We proudly serve Second State Coffee, use local milk, and make all of our flavored syrups in-house. Our pastries and food are made with the same attention to thoughtful ingredients, seasonality, and quality.

We want our Baristas to understand what they’re serving and be curious enough to learn more—because being able to share the story behind a great cup of coffee is part of the hospitality.

Your Day at Lillian’s

Morning | Coffee + Counter-Service Breakfast

The morning is all about our neighborhood café.

You’ll welcome guests as they come in, take counter orders, prepare coffee and espresso beverages, assist with our breakfast service, serve pastries, and help guests navigate the café and market.

You’ll be responsible for keeping the flow of morning service organized, efficient, friendly, and genuinely hospitable.

Lunch | Coffee Shop + Beverage Service

As lunch begins, our second-floor dining room opens and servers take over lunch service upstairs.

Your focus remains the coffee shop.

You’ll prepare coffees and specialty beverages ordered by guests dining upstairs while continuing to take care of walk-in guests coming in for:

  • Coffee and espresso drinks
  • Tea and specialty beverages
  • Pastries
  • Grab-and-go items
  • Market purchases
You’ll work closely with the upstairs service team so beverages for lunch guests are prepared accurately and efficiently while still making sure the guest standing in front of you downstairs feels seen and taken care of.

The coffee shop doesn’t stop when lunch starts—and neither does the hospitality.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Own the coffee portion of Lillian’s daytime beverage program.
  • Prepare espresso drinks, brewed coffee, tea, and seasonal specialty beverages with consistency and care.
  • Learn and maintain our standards for espresso preparation, milk steaming, drink recipes, and presentation.
  • Provide counter service for our breakfast program.
  • Serve and package pastries and appropriate grab-and-go items.
  • Prepare coffee and specialty beverages for guests dining upstairs during lunch.
  • Continue serving walk-in coffee, pastry, and market guests throughout lunch service.
  • Learn our Second State Coffee, local milk, house-made syrups, pastries, seasonal ingredients, and other café offerings.
  • Be able to talk comfortably with guests about what we’re serving and make thoughtful recommendations.
  • Keep the coffee bar clean, organized, stocked, and ready for service.
  • Monitor inventory and communicate needs before we run out of something.
  • Maintain a sense of urgency during busy periods without sacrificing quality or hospitality.
  • Communicate clearly with the kitchen, servers, and management team.
  • Jump in and help when another team member needs support.
The Person We’re Looking For

Previous barista experience is preferred, but we’re equally interested in finding someone with hospitality instincts, curiosity, reliability, and a willingness to learn.

You may be a great fit if you:

  • Genuinely enjoy taking care of people.
  • Love coffee—or are excited to learn more about it.
  • Take pride in making things correctly and consistently.
  • Care about quality ingredients and where they come from.
  • Can manage multiple orders while remaining calm and welcoming.
  • Are comfortable transitioning between counter service and beverage production.
  • Notice guests instead of waiting for them to get your attention.
  • See something that needs to be done and take care of it.
  • Communicate well and enjoy working as part of a team.
  • Are dependable and understand that your teammates are counting on you.
  • Can receive feedback and want to continue learning.
  • Bring solutions when challenges arise.
  • Understand that no job is beneath anyone when you’re part of a team.
Hospitality at Lillian’s

We don’t believe hospitality is limited to the person serving a table.

Everyone is responsible for hospitality.

It might mean remembering a regular’s coffee order, greeting someone who walks through the door even when you’re busy, remaking a drink that isn’t quite right, helping an upstairs server get a coffee order out quickly, or noticing that a teammate needs help before they have to ask.

We want people who pay attention.

We believe the way we treat one another behind the scenes ultimately determines the experience we create for our guests. We expect teamwork, communication, accountability, kindness, and a willingness to jump in.

We take our ingredients seriously, our hospitality personally, and our teamwork to heart.

Schedule

We are specifically hiring for:

Monday: 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
Tuesday: 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
Wednesday: 7:00 AM–3:30 PM

This is an ideal position for someone looking for a consistent three-day daytime schedule.

Want More Hours?

There is an opportunity to cross-train in other positions at Lillian’s for someone interested in full-time hours.

We value people who want to learn different parts of the restaurant, become stronger hospitality professionals, and grow with our team.

Why Join Lillian’s?

  • Competitive pay
  • Consistent daytime schedule
  • Opportunities for additional hours
  • Cross-training and opportunities for growth
  • Employee discounts on menu and market items
  • Coffee and ingredient education

We’d Love to Meet You

If you love the rhythm of a coffee shop, enjoy getting to know regulars, care about what goes into the things you serve, and believe hospitality is about more than simply completing a transaction, we’d love to hear from you.

When applying, tell us a little about yourself, your experience, and what great hospitality means to you.

Come make great coffee, take care of people, and help us create the kind of neighborhood place people look forward to coming back to.
